Natural Remedies for Ingrown Toenail

Ingrown toenail is a chronic condition which occurs when toenails are being clipped in a wrong way. It may ingrown in both sides of a toe, or just in one. This condition also occurs if a toenail is deformed in some way.

Too narrow or uncomfortable shoes can lead to this condition. Football players are usually affected with it.

Ingrown toenail can go without any symptoms, but later, as the condition gets worse, it can lead to unbearable pain, especially if there is a constant pressure on the affected spot.

The area becomes red, warm, and if it is not treated, it can become infected, and that is very dangerous.

Once affected, the area also becomes swollen. Puss is being accumulated under the skin and a person can experience difficulties while walking, standing, or sitting.

The best option to treat this condition is a visit to a doctor. The ingrown toenail is removed then, and the recovery may take a while.

However, there are some natural ways to treat this condition, are we will suggest some of them.

Place your foot into hot water, in order to soften your toenail. Use a clean needle to lift your nail, and place a small piece of cotton ball underneath. This will help your nail to grow properly. Change the cotton ball every day.

Lemon pledget
Place a piece of a lemon onto the nail, wrap it up with a piece of clean cloth, and leave it overnight. When the toenail is soft enough, clip it, and place a small cotton ball underneath it. Change the pledget every day.

Field horsetail bath
Pour boiled water over dry field horsetail and leave it for 2-3 hours, then drain it. Place your foot into the solution and keep it in for half an hour.

Linseed flour pledget
Prepare linseed porridge. Place it onto a piece of gauze, wrap the gauze around the toenail and leave it overnight. Change the pledget every day.

When the puss is removed underneath the toenail, prepare the chamomile tea and wash the nail with it.
